Arts TAG begins for Term 3 and 4!

We have a whole new TAG group with a new TAG focus... the Arts.

Dance, Drama, Sound Arts (Music) and Visual Art.

The children are all very excited to be here... as is Mrs Maw as this is one of her all time favourite things in all  the world!

We begin with choice activities to warm up our brains while we have our milo.

Here we are acting out one of the versions of the Matariki legend.

Last day :-(

Today is our last day of Science / Social Science TAG.

Here are the activities we did that people look back on and say they learned the most from.

Tag stretched my brain by giving me more choices about what I learn. – Amelia

Tag stretched my brain by teaching me about my brain. By Nicky

Tag stretched my brain by showing me ways you can trick your brain… none of them worked on me. By Hugo

The best thing was when we saw the pig brains and touched them and cut them up. By Taylor

I learned the most when we were in Room 17 and we got to walk around with the jelly brains and then got to eat them. By Daniel.

I think the best thing was when we got to build the solar robots because that was really hard. By Zek

I enjoyed making brains with Lego and Duplo. By Alec

Of all the things we did… cutting up the brains was the best and building brains with Lego was good too. By Georgia

I loved the jelly brains because we got to eat them.  I learned that we need a helmet. By Cassie

I like the jelly brain activity because we saw one brain brake and we learned that could happen to our brains if we didn’t have helmets and we crashed. By Kylie

The activity I learned the most from was tricking the brains. We all tried to trick our brains and mine didn’t get tricked. By Callum

I liked when we tasted all the different foods. We eat lots of things and noticed the different tastes. By Miles

My favourite part of each TAG day was when we get to pick what we do. By Tama

I had two favourite activities one was when I could chose word finds and find all the words. I also liked doing the sheets about everyone so we learned about each other. By Darnya

I mostly enjoyed using the iPads . By Ralph

The best day for me was when we opened up a pigs brain. That stretched my brian. By Eli

I leaned the most when I was playing on the iPads on minecraft because it made me learn new stuff. I also liked learning about pigs brains and the white stuff. By Kafir

Here we are working on a new solar powered robot challenge.

Here is what we look like self-managing our Milos - such a favourite part of TAG.

Persuasive arguments.

A Likely Tale

Once upon a time, there were two groups of people, the Blues and the Greens, who lived in the same land, one group at one end and the other group at the other end.
Because the groups were small and travelled little, they never met. As a result, they developed quite different ideas about how people should live. For example, the Blues believed that only boys should go to school. Girls were clearly intended by Nature to bear children and stay home to look after them. Therefore, Nature ha not given girls the intellectual powers needed for book learning.
The Greens, on the other hand, believed that only girls should go to school.
Girls were clearly not as strong as boy, and Nature had obviously given boys their greater muscle power so that they could go out an tackle the tough jobs in life. Girls were meant to do the ‘weak’ work, like reading and doing sums.

This situation continued for may years. But gradually both groups grew in size and sought more land. Eventually, they met, and then there was war…

We each picked if we agreed with the Blues or the Greens.
Some people were undecided so...

The Greens spoke first and tried to persuade the others to change to their point of view.
Then people who had been persuaded moved to their new position.

Then the Blues got to have their say and tried to persuade others to change their position.

Each side got one more chance to persuade others before we made our final decisions.

Blues won for all but 3 people - who were all girls!
There were some amazing arguments heard - well done.

Some people argued for both sides which shows what flexible thinkers they are!

Build your brain with Lego to show what you know day.

And here is what they looked liked when finished!
Each person had to show Mrs Maw the brain stem, cerebrum, especially the frontal lobe, and the cerebellum.

Thanks Nicky's Mum!!!!!!

Nicky's mum is a Dr who found this model of the brain for us to pull apart, discuss and put back together.

We had a great time with and could all put it back together in our groups.

Thanks soooooooooooo much for letting us have a go with it.

Someone thought they could see a neuron - but as we didn't have a microscope we knew they couldn't.

Instead we built our own neurons and the many dendritic connections between them.

Some people were neurons, other people were the dendritic connections - some were really fast as they had myelin coatings - others were slower.

We  also even killed off a few pathways so they didn't work anymore - it was slower but we could still get the message through in the end.

We all have strengths and weaknesses!

Mrs Maw talked to use about how every single person's strengths and weaknesses are different.

Everyone is good at some things...
and not so good at some things.

She showed us a picture of her strengths and weaknesses that she made using the Birmingham Grid of Multiple Intelligences.

We all want to have a go to see what our picture looks like.

These people want to put their Gardiner's Multiple Intelligences picture on the blog for everyone to see. Because they are proud of their strengths.

These people want to take a photocopy of their
Gardiners Multiple Intelligences picture home to their families and keep their strengths and weaknesses to themselves.

We think knowing our strengths and weaknesses helps us because you can get help from someone with a strength in something that might be a weakness of yours.

It will take some time to get all the information for everybody... but we are on the way!
