Local Dance Mentors pay us a visit !

Today we had Miss Maddie and Miss Anna, two local dance teachers come and help us dance out a legend.

First we watched one of the Matariki Legends on youtube. Next we warmed up our bodies.
Then we broke into two groups and learned our parts of the dance. After that we put it all together without the music. Finally we added the music and were amazing!

Look at the photos and follow the link to our YouTube  clip to see us in action.

Back for a new term in a new location!

Here we are doing our choice activities while we drink our Milo... before trying our hand at more dancing like we did last session.

We started out by hearing a legend called 'The Silkie', all about a seal who got trapped on land when she came in to dance on the beach with the other Silkies.

We decided we would dance like the setting to that legend and began by moving like the sea. Then one person would change from moving like the sea, to a static position and form a rock formation... then others could join on at any position and any level.

We did it again and again as we loved it!

In our last session we looked at images of the sea and used pastels to illustrate the setting - each of us had a different sea in our heads when we were dancing... we picked an image that was like the one we had imagined as we danced... our images will take some time - as we know good art work is never rushed.

Here are some of the images we are using to help us:
